Manfred Knaak

Manfred Knaak (* 1960 in Schweinfurt ) is a German conductor , arranger , composer and music producer .

Career

Knaak got his first engagement as Kapellmeister in 1987 at the Stadttheater Pforzheim , afterwards he worked at the theaters in Coburg, Aachen, Hildesheim, Hof and Würzburg. Since 1995 he has been increasingly active in the independent jazz scene, including as a jazz conductor and producer with David Liebman (New York) and Florian Ross (Cologne). Since 1998 he has been teaching musical production at the University of Music in Würzburg . Knaak had already made a name for himself as a conductor and arranger for musicals (including German premieres of Me and My Girl , My One and Only and Godspell ). He has been working with Stephen Schwartz since 2001 .

Since 2002 Knaak has been working increasingly and mainly as a composer, including for ZDF and Arte . Among other things, he worked on music for the silent films Der müde Tod  (1921) by Fritz Lang and Madame Beudets sunny smile  (1922) by Germaine Dulac . In addition, Knaak composed several major stage works, such as Quo Vadis (2005, Theater Trier) or The Secret of the Collier (2007, Theater Regensburg). At the same time, a lively collaboration with Konstantin Wecker developed .
