Manfred Kursawa

Manfred Kursawa (* 1933 ; † 2001 ) was a German football official.

Life

Kursawa grew up in Berlin-Mariendorf and was a soccer player with BFC Viktoria in 1889 , before he had to give up his playing career after a knee injury. He was also unable to continue working as a referee for long.

As a result, Kursawa, who worked full-time at the Federal Insurance Agency for Salaried Employees , became an honorary functionary and began in 1963 as the main cashier at Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin . In the 1960s he was still chairman of the association. Under his aegis, the club rose to professional football. With the help of patrons, promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga was achieved in 1984 and promotion to the first class in 1986. As early as 1973 you had the opportunity to move up to the Bundesliga, but blue-white failed in the promotion round. Kursawa was not re-elected in 1989. The club later got into debt and had to file for bankruptcy in 1992.

In the 1990s, Kursawa became vice president of the Berlin Football Association. As a member of the control committee of the DFB in the 1970s, he was involved in clearing up the Bundesliga scandal of 1971 .

Kursawa died in 2001 and was buried in Berlin-Mariendorf.
