from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manfred Meisel (* 1948 ; † November 11th / 12th 1997 at S'Aranjassa on Mallorca ) was a German restaurant and bar operator. He became known as the operator and owner of the " Bierkönig " beer garden on Mallorca. On November 12, 1997 he was found shot dead on his finca .

Life

Meisel, then a restaurateur in Frankfurt, decided in the late 1980s to continue his career on Mallorca. Together with his business partner Gerd Nicolai, he first wanted to buy the Andis pizzeria from Horst Abel, known as the “sausage king”. A friend of Meisels, however, showed him the beer king belonging to a building contractor and an electrician . At that time it was still unprofitable and neglected, but Meisel wanted the shop immediately. The opening was on April 21, 1990 after a renovation. In the years that followed, the beer king became more and more famous and eventually became a place of worship for German tourists.

death

Meisel was found shot on the morning of November 12, 1997 on his finca near S'Aranjassa, together with his eight-year-old son Patrick and his colleague Claudia Leisten. Ilse K. found him, who was responsible for Meisel's parrot breeding together with Leisten.

The last and the chisel were each literally executed by a shot in the back of the head, fired through a pillow. They were lying head to head in the office wing of the property. His son was shot twice in the temple in his parents' bedroom. The time of death was determined to be around 12:30 a.m. on the night of November 11th to 12th. Meisel's partner survived because she was pregnant at the time and undergoing an examination in Germany. It is suspected, among other things, that the perpetrators thought Claudia Leisten was Meisel's partner. Manfred Meisel was 49 years old.

The perpetrators have not yet been identified. It is believed, among other things, that Meisel had to die because of his parrot breeding. Several of his competitors around the world were jealous of the around 2,000 parrots that Meisel owned, according to a friend of mine. According to a survey by the Spanish newspaper Diario de Mallorca , Meisel has repeatedly shown aggressive behavior, including towards employees. Furthermore it could be found out that there should have been business problems. Meisel was threatened from 1994, according to a friend of Meisel's.

Under Spanish law, the case has been statute-barred since 2017; however, under German law, murder is never statute-barred .
