Manfred Schulte-Zurhausen

Manfred Schulte-Zurhausen (born August 18, 1951 in Gladbeck ) is a German mechanical engineer and economist and former rector of the Aachen University of Applied Sciences .

Live and act

After graduating from high school, Schulte-Zurhausen studied mechanical engineering from 1970 to 1975 and economics from 1975 to 1978 at RWTH Aachen University . He was then taken on as a research assistant at the Research Institute for Rationalization at RWTH Aachen University and received his doctorate in 1981 as Dr.-Ing. with his dissertation on the planning of block storage systems .

Schulte-Zurhausen then took up a position in the Society for Organizational Consulting and System Development in Aachen and in 1983 switched to the United Glassworks in Aachen as project manager and head of the system development / organization car glass department .

In 1989 he followed a call to the Aachen University of Applied Sciences, which took him on as a professor for the field of "Business Administration, in particular corporate organization", which was expanded to include project management from 1997 onwards. In addition, from 1994 to 1998 he was elected Vice Dean for the Faculty of Economics and from 1995 to 1999 also acted as coordinator of his faculty for the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). He was then elected Vice-Rector for Planning and Finance from 1999 to 2003 and Vice-Rector for Teaching, Studies and Further Education from 2003 to 2005 and finally as the successor to Hermann Josef Buchkremer from 2005 to 2009 as Rector of the University of Applied Sciences.

During his time as rector, it was largely thanks to him that he won the state-wide competition "Expansion of the universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia" in 2008 and, in cooperation with business and industry, the creation of eight new courses in the areas of expertise in infrastructure and sustainable building, mobility and IT , and energy for more than 800 students.

Schulte-Zurhausen retained his chair until his retirement on March 1, 2017 and then took up a freelance position as a lecturer.
