Hermann Josef Buchkremer

Hermann Josef Buchkremer (born May 11, 1940 ) is a German physicist and former rector of the Aachen University of Applied Sciences .

Live and act

After finishing school, Buchkremer studied physics at the University of Cologne and RWTH Aachen University , where he passed his main diploma examination. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Roads at RWTH Aachen University, before moving to the Institute for Reactor Safety at the Jülich nuclear research facility . After founding the Aachen University of Applied Sciences, located in Jülich , Buchkremer was given a lectureship in the field of physical technology, neutron and atomic physics and was appointed professor a few years later. In addition, from 1974 onwards he took over the teaching of general subjects at the university, for which he took part in all of the Quadriga broadcasting colleges ( HR , SDR , SR , SWF ) between 1970 and 1998 and graduated with very good. Finally, Buchkremer was elected spokesman for the Jülich department in 1986 and, succeeding René Flosdorff, was elected rector of the Aachen University of Applied Sciences from 1991 until his retirement in 2005.

Buchkremer's main merit is the introduction of the “Freshman Institute” at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences, which, as a preparatory college, offers foreign students a technical and linguistic bridge between school in their home country and studies in Germany and thus an optimal introduction to studying in Germany. Next to the Geilenkirchen location , which was expanded in 2010.

For his services to the Aachen University of Applied Sciences, Buchkremer was made an honorary senator of the university in 2010.
