The Libbey Glacier is a glacier in the Elias Range in southern Alaska ( USA ).
The glacier was named in 1888 after William Libbey , a participant in the New York Times Expedition in 1886 and geography professor at Princeton, who later won the silver medal in shooting at the 1912 Summer Olympics .
geography
The nutrient area of the Libbey Glacier is located on the southeast flank of Mount Saint Elias at an altitude of about 2000 m . From there the Libbey Glacier flows downhill for a distance of 15 km and finally flows into the Agassiz Glacier , which runs further east , shortly before its transition to the Malaspina Glacier . The Libbey Glacier reaches a maximum width of 3.2 km in the lower area. The Agassiz Lakes are located on the western edge of the lower section of the glacier.
