Manfred Straus

Manfred Straus (born December 10, 1878 in Cannstatt ; died March 1942 in Riga ) was a German entrepreneur and Jewish victim of National Socialism.

Life

Manfred Straus was one of three children of the entrepreneur Max Straus . When in 1922 his father's company, Bettfedernfabrik Straus & Cie. was converted into a stock corporation, he was named their first board member along with his brother Leo and brother-in-law Fritz Berliner . In 1914 he, his father and his brother were shown as simple millionaires in a tax list of the city of Stuttgart.

He married Alice Fellheimer (born December 7, 1883); there are two sons from the marriage:

  • Gerhard Straus (born September 30, 1905) emigrated to America in November 1938
  • Hans Straus (born April 12, 1907) emigrated to England in August 1939.

On December 1, 1941, Manfred and Alice Straus were deported to the Riga Ghetto together with 1,011 other people . According to their son Hans, their parents were shot on March 26, 1942 in the Bikernieki forest .
