Manfred Thiesmann (* 1945 ) is a former German swimming coach. He was active in the club and as a national coach.

Life

Thiesmann was a trainer at SG Hansa Dortmund until 1980 and led a. a. Gerald Mörken for the European title with a world record over 200 m breaststroke. From 1980 to 2003 he was the German national swimming coach for men and then until 2008 he was honorary coach for five years. From 1980 to 2008 he worked closely with the sports promotion group Warendorf of the Bundeswehr , where he was also active.

Since 2006 he has not belonged to the first row of DSV trainers. During his tenure there were six Summer Olympic Games , 20 World and 26 European Championships. Thiesmann's most successful protégé was the three-time Olympic champion Michael Groß . He also looked after swimmers like Mark Warnecke .

Shortly before the end of his active coaching career, Thiesmann was not proposed to DOSB by DSV sports director Örjan Madsen for nomination as a supervisor for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . The coach then sued in order to force his nomination with an injunction. The lawsuit was ruled negative in two instances. Thiesmann therefore traveled to Beijing at his own expense and as a private citizen.
