Mannheim Peritonitis Index
The Mannheim Peritonitis Index (MPI) is a score that is used in medicine to estimate the prognosis of patients with peritonitis .
Risk factors
Points are awarded for the presence of the risk factors below . The MPI results from the sum of all points awarded.
Risk factor | Points | |
---|---|---|
Age> 50 years | 5 | |
Gender female | 5 | |
Organ failure | 7th | |
Malignancy | 4th | |
Duration of peritonitis before surgery> 24 hours | 4th | |
The starting point is not the large intestine | 4th | |
diffuse spread | 6th | |
Exudate | clear | 0 |
cloudy-purulent | 6th | |
muddy-jauchy | 12 |
If the MPI is ≤ 20, the expected mortality of the patient is almost 0%. With an MPI> 29, a mortality rate of more than 50% is to be expected.
origin
The MPI is based on the analysis of the disease progression of patients with peritonitis in clinics in Mannheim and Frankfurt am Main . The score was later validated through studies by other clinics .
