The MTArb - collective agreement for workers of the federal and state governments was in Germany from 1 March 1996 to 30 September 2005 and 31 October 2006, the collective agreement the basis for the subject of the workers pension insurance employees of the federal and state governments, with the exception of Berlin and Bremen .

The MTArb replaced the collective collective agreement for federal workers (MTB II) and the collective collective agreement for workers of the federal states (MTL II) of February 27, 1964, which was largely identical in content .

Contracting parties were the Federal Republic of Germany , represented by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the collective bargaining association of German states (TdL) for the employer side, as well as the Public Services, Transport and Traffic Union (ÖTV), one of Verdi's predecessor unions .

The MTArb was replaced for the federal sector on October 1, 2005 by the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD) and for the federal states on November 1, 2006 by the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L) .

In addition to the MTArb and its forerunner collective agreements, the federal collective agreement for workers in municipal administrations and companies (BMT-G II) also existed for municipal employers .
