The Manuel family is a Bernese patrician family that has owned the city of Bern as a citizen since 1460 . The family belongs to the Ober-Gerwern company . The progenitor is the painter, poet and statesman Niklaus Manuel , who changed the family name - according to the name of his presumed father, Emanuel de Allemannis - to Niklaus Manuel Deutsch.
