Albrecht Manuel (born November 2, 1560 in Bern ; † August 11, 1637 ibid) was mayor of Bern and Lord of Cronay .

Life

Albrecht Manuel was born the son of Niklaus Manuel and grandson of the painter Niklaus Manuel . From 1588 he sat in the Bernese Grand Council, was Governor of Yverdon , from 1595 member of the Small Council and Venner zu Gerwern , from 1597 governor of the mayor's office and member of the Privy Council, from 1600 to 1632 mayor of Bern. One of his many missions in 1590 was brokering a peace between Geneva and Savoy . He fought Savoy's claims to Geneva and Vaud and in 1617 he achieved that Savoy renounced the two areas again according to the Lausanne Treaty of 1564 and concluded a protective alliance with Bern, which included Geneva. In the Valais he represented the interests of Protestants against recatholization. For decades, Manuel shaped federal politics in the spirit of the Reformed estates.
