Manuel Leonís de Castro
Manuel Leonís de Castro was a Portuguese officer and colonial administrator in the 18th century. From 1741 to 1745 he was governor of Portuguese Timor and Solor .
Service on Timor
Castro had already been appointed governor in 1736, but did not take over his post from his predecessor António Moniz de Macedo until 1741 . In a letter to the Portuguese king that same year, he complained about the disobedient, bellicose liurais , the greedy Dutch and the lack of people, supplies, ammunition and weapons. At the same time, Castro asked for the outstanding salaries to be paid.
It seems that the salaries continued to fail because Castro's widow Ana Maria de Melo Pereira complained again in a letter to the king in 1759 that her late husband had not been paid for his services on Timor.
