Manuel Ramírez (guitar maker)
Manuel Ramírez (* 1864 ; † 1916 ) was a Spanish guitar maker .
life and work
Manuel Ramírez was trained in his older brother José's workshop, which was founded in 1882, and founded his own workshop in Madrid in 1891 . In addition to violins, he mainly built concert and flamenco guitars there, and restored Antonio de Torres instruments . The notes on his instruments give the address "Arlabán, 10" (in the Barrio de la Latina in downtown Madrid).
M. Ramírez achieved particular fame through a guitar he made, which he gave to the aspiring 19-year-old Andrés Segovia and which is now kept in the Metropolitan Museum of Art .
Ramírez's students included Domingo Esteso (who founded the Conde Hermanos manufactory in Madrid, which still exists today ) and Santos Hernández.
