The manuka oil is a volatile oil obtained from the leaves and twigs of the Leptospermum scoparium ( Manuka ) by steam distillation is recovered.

Manuka oil is a light yellow to yellow-brown liquid with a honey-like odor, soluble in alcohol and insoluble in water. The density is 0.994 g · cm −3 and the flash point is 98.6 ° C.

composition

Manuka oil can contain large amounts of leptospermone , calamene and δ- cadins ; also Cadina-1,4-diene , α- selinene , Flaveson , α- cubebs , α- copaene , and other terpenes .

effect

Manuka oil has an antibacterial and antifungal effect similar to tea tree oil and is irritating to the skin and eyes.
