María del Carmen Bousada de Lara (born January 5, 1940 in Cádiz ; † July 11, 2009 in El Puerto de Santa María ) was a Spanish woman who became known worldwide as the world's oldest mother when she was old on December 29, 2006 aged 66, gave birth to two children using the in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure . She was an ardent advocate of the right to late motherhood and was therefore the subject of intense ethics debates .

The twins Christian and Pau were born prematurely by caesarean section , both boys weighed only 1,600 grams at birth.

Bousada de Lara admitted that when she requested in vitro fertilization (IVF), she lied to doctors at the Pacific Fertility Center in Los Angeles , California about her true age. She pretended to be only 55 years old, which corresponds to the maximum age limit for performing IVF in this clinic. At the time of the birth of their two children, according to available documents, Bousada was the oldest mother in the world. She exceeded the age record set in 2005 by the Romanian mother Adriana Iliescu. Two years later, Omkari Panwar, a supposedly 70-year-old woman from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, also gave birth to twins; however, Panwar's age could never be officially confirmed. In 2016, also in India, Daljinger Kaur, at least 70 years old, gave birth to her first child.

Bousada died 11 July 2009 a cancer that may have been triggered by the massive hormone treatment during IVF. At the time of her death, her sons were just two and a half years old.
