Marc Martin Lamti (born January 28, 2001 in Cologne , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a Tunisian - German football player . Most recently, he played in the A-youth team of Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the position of central defender . In June 2019 he made his debut for the Tunisian senior team .

Marc Lamti started playing football in 2005 at the age of four at FC Pesch in his hometown. Three years later he took part in a youth tournament organized by 1. FC Köln , where Bayer 04 Leverkusen scouts noticed him. Lamti then moved to the U8 of the club. In 2016 he joined the B youth and in 2018, due to age, he was promoted to the A youth. For this he played a total of 24 of 26 possible league games in the 2018/19 season and scored two goals. Lamti did not receive a contract beyond his youth in Leverkusen.

National team

On June 7, 2019, Lamti made his debut for the national team of Tunisia in a friendly against Iraq at the age of 18 , without having previously played a club game in the men's division. In the 2-0 victory of his team, he came on in the 81st minute of the game. In the same month he was nominated in Tunisia's final squad for the 2019 Africa Cup in Egypt . He was the youngest participating player in the tournament. Tunisia made it to second place in its group and reached the semi-finals, where they only failed in extra time against Senegal . Tunisia lost the following game for third place to Nigeria . Lamti was not used in any of the seven games.

Personal

Lamti was born in Cologne in January 2001 and grew up in Pesch in the north-west of the city. After elementary school he attended a grammar school in Pesch, after the eighth grade he switched to a secondary school in Leverkusen in order to get to soccer training more quickly from there. At Bayer 04 Leverkusen he began training as a sports and fitness clerk , which he successfully completed in July 2020. One of his grandfathers comes from Tunisia. In addition to German , Lamti also speaks English , but no Arabic at the time of his first nomination for the Tunisian selections .
