BREATH. Long
The declaration of Independence

At the beginning of the 1980s, Marc van den Broek devoted himself to spatial installations in the form of a symbiosis of art and technology, the flying objects mutants . In 1984 he began developing kinetic art , which culminated in the Archaic-Technological Metamorphoses (A.TE.M.) from 1987–1989 . BREATH. Marc van den Broek's manifest expression symbolizes the overall mental conception: the basic forms (sphere, cube, pyramid) are archaic, the construction principle of the objects is technological and the movement of the objects is metamorphosis.

The Declaration of Independence was created in 1990–1992 as a kinetic sculpture that marked the farewell to the era of materialism at the end of the industrial age .

Inspired by the long-term and intensive cooperation with industrial and commercial companies, Marc van den Broek developed the project On the Work of Art in Companies in the 1990s . He takes up the term Joseph Beuys of social sculpture and sees in the symbiosis of art and business a synergetic design process that promotes inspiration, innovation and knowledge and thus contributes to the intellectual development of society. Marc van den Broek followed this approach during his time in New York (1998–2008), where he worked with many well-known companies.

At the same time, the artist primarily deals with the question of how realities change, how perceptions change, and how this can be portrayed in art. To this end, he is working on a large-format painting cycle with the overarching theme of angels and other ambassadors . In the spring of 2010, the nomad garden, an art installation on the subject of social sculpture, will be built in Hamburg. According to the modular principle, the nomad garden can be installed at any location and has an effect on the urban organism there. The experimental short film #MEAT will be released in 2016 and will be shown and awarded at international film festivals in the following years.

Marc van den Broek has been studying the work of Leonardo da Vinci for over 35 years. This leads him in 2018 to his publication Leonardo da Vinci's Ingenuity , in which he examines the origins of da Vinci's technical illustrations and traces their sources. The English edition of Leonardo da Vinci Spirits of Invention was published in 2019 .
