Marcelo Mendonça Rossi (born May 20, 1967 in São Paulo ) is a priest of the Roman Catholic Church in Brazil . In his home country he is very successful as a charismatic preacher. With several religious radio programs , he achieved high ratings every day.

Life

Marcelo Rossi grew up in São Paulo, studied there and now leads his own church. Due to its great popularity, it is constantly growing. In October 2011 he opened the church center with the largest Catholic church in Latin America on the southern edge of Sao Paulo. It can hold up to 100,000 people, 25,000 in the church with a cantilevered roof and 75,000 on the outside of the 30-hectare property.

The priest Rossi is a symbol of the Catholic charismatic movement in Brazil . In his church services he uses a lot of music and thus partly adopts forms that are used throughout Latin America , especially by Protestant evangelical churches and sects. With these they have been extremely successful on the subcontinent in recent years and have weakened the traditional influence of the Catholic Church. According to religious scholars, many believers have returned to or stayed in the Catholic Church because of Rossi.

With television and radio programs, Rossi also uses modern media for evangelism and thus reaches hundreds of thousands of people every day, now also in other countries. Numerous listeners and viewers feel addressed by openly speaking about the problems of the population. He also makes religious films and records albums of religious music, which are among the best-selling in the country. The associated income should go to all social institutions or the building of the new church.
