Marco Arriagada

Marco Antonio Arriagada Quinchel (born October 30, 1975 in Curicó ) is a former Chilean track and road cyclist.

Athletic career

Marco Arriagada became Chilean time trial champion in 2001. The next year he won a stage in the Vuelta Ciclista de Chile . In 2003 he was first in the overall ranking at the Vuelta Ciclista Lider al Sur and again national time trial champion and he won a stage and the overall ranking of the Vuelta de Chile. The next year he was successful on two sections of the Vuelta Lider al Sur and he again won a stage with an overall ranking in the country tour through Chile. In the following years he celebrated several stage victories on both tours. In 2005 Arriagada won a stage in the Ascensión a los Nevados de Chillán race and was able to win the overall standings. In the next year he was able to defend the overall victory. He also won a stage and the overall ranking of the Vuelta a Mendoza. In the 2007 season he was overall first of the Vuelta de Atacama and in 2008 he won a section of the Vuelta de San Juan.

On the track, he was third in the Pan American championship in 2001 in the single pursuit. In 2004 he won the World Cup in points race in Moscow . At the Pan American Championship in 2005 in Mar del Plata, Arriagada won the gold medal in the team pursuit and silver in the individual pursuit and in the points race. In 2007 he won the six-day race in Aguascalientes, Mexico, together with Antonio Cabrera .

In January 2011, Arriagada was tested positive for anabolic steroids at the "Vuelta Ciclista de Chile" . He was suspended for four years, until January 2015, and his victory at the Vuelta was revoked.
