Marco Grimani

Marco Grimani (* around 1494 in Venice , † 1544 in Rome ) was Patriarch of Aquileia and diplomat in the service of the Pope.

The Grimani belonged to the "Case Nuove" of the patriciate of Venice . Marco Grimani, a grandson of Doge Antonio Grimani and brother Vettor Grimanis , was elected procurator in 1522 . After the death of his wife, he embarked on a spiritual career, probably without ever having received ordinations . In 1526 he followed his brother Marino Grimani into the office of Patriarch of Aquileia. In 1538 he was appointed papal legate . In 1543 and 1544 he was on a diplomatic mission in Scotland.

Marco Grimani was buried in the Grimani family chapel in San Francesco della Vigna , his grave has not been preserved.
