Marco Pascolo (born May 9, 1966 in Sion ) is a former Swiss football goalkeeper .

Career

Pascolo began his career as a junior at FC Sion , where he made the leap to the first team in 1986. Under coach Roy Hodgson , he made his debut for the national team in January 1992. He subsequently developed into a regular player and made 55 appearances. In 2001 he resigned from the national team.

The highlights of his international career were his participation in the 1994 World Cup in the USA (Switzerland reached the round of 16) and the 1996 European Championship in England (Switzerland were eliminated in the preliminary round). On the goal line, Pascolo often showed world class reflexes and saved his team many points. However, he revealed weaknesses in running out (control of the penalty area) and back passes.

His good performance at the European Championship in 1996 enabled him to move to Serie A at Cagliari Calcio and later to England to Nottingham Forest . He was never really able to assert himself there and returned to Switzerland for FC Zurich in 1998.

In 2006 he ended his active career with his regular club FC Sion and became goalkeeping coach there .
