Marcos José Rocha dos Santos , known as Coronel Marcos Rocha or Marcos Rocha , (born August 3, 1968 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian officer in the military police and politician . He has been a member of the right-wing Partido Social Liberal (PSL) since 2018 and the 11th governor of Rondônia since 2019 thanks to a surprise victory .

Life

He is the son of Antônio dos Santos and Lucília da Rocha Santos. At the age of 18 he joined the Brazilian army as a recruit, and at the age of 21 he moved to Rondônia in 1989 to begin a career as an officer.

Political career

In the gubernatorial elections in Brazil in 2018 on the occasion of the elections in Brazil in 2018 , he received 183,691 votes (23.99%) in the first ballot, made it to the runoff and won the election with 530,188 or 66.34% of the valid votes.

He took office on January 1, 2019. As early as April 1, 2019, an application for impeachment proceedings was submitted because he had appointed 16 people to high offices without the consent of the parliament in Rondônia.
