Marcus Artorius Priscillus Vicasius Sabidianus
Marcus Artorius Priscillus Vicasius Sabidianus (full name form Marcus Artorius Marci filius Palatina Priscillus Vicasius Sabidianus ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD . Individual stations of his career, which he completed towards the end of the 1st century and in the first quarter of the 2nd century, are known through an inscription.
The military career of Priscillus consisted of the usual tres militiae for a member of the equestrian order . He was first tribune of the Cohors XV Voluntariorum civium Romanorum , which was stationed in the province of Germania inferior . Then he was tribunus legionis in Legio VII Claudia . The third stage was the post of prefect of the Ala I Pannoniorum , which was stationed in the province of Moesia inferior .
After completing his military career, Priscillus took on positions in administration. He was initially responsible for an administrative district in the province of Aegyptus as praefectus montis Berenicidis . After that, he probably returned to his hometown of Puteoli for some time to become patron and priest of the deified Augustus ( flamen divi Augusti ). Subsequently, he was again active in Egypt, this time as Epistratege the county Thebaidis ; this post was associated with an annual income of 60,000 sesterces .
His administrative activity as prefect is also evidenced by papyri ; in another papyrus, dated 117/118, he is mentioned as an epistrategist.
Priscillus was inscribed in the tribe of Palatina .
