Marcus Baylor

Marcus Baylor (* in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American jazz drummer. From 2000 to 2010 he was a member of the fusion band Yellowjackets . Since 2011 he has been playing in the band Free Day .

Career as a musician

Baylor started playing drums when he was two. He gained his first stage experience through appearances in his father's church. After graduating from high school, he studied for four years at Mannes College of Music , where he made important contacts. During his sophomore year, Cassandra Wilson invited him to an audition. On their 1999 album "Traveling Miles" he was a drummer. Through further collaboration with her Baylor succeeded in the saxophonist Kenny Garrett , who also hired him for studio recordings. Before joining the Yellowjackets , he toured with the likes of Christian McBride and John Scofield .

Marcus Baylor has been with the former singer of Zhané , Jean Baylor born since 2002 . Norris, married, who also sings in Baylor's new band Free Day .
