Zhané
Zhané (pronounced Jah-Nay ) was an American R & B - and Hip-Hop - Duo , consisting of Jean Norris and Renee Neufville that in 1993 in Philadelphia got together. The international breakthrough came with the debut single Hey Mr. DJ .
Band history
Norris and Neufville met while studying music at Temple University in Philadelphia and founded the Duo Zhané in 1993. Kay Gee, the producer of Naughty by Nature , discovered the musicians and recorded the song Hey Mr. DJ with them . Samples from Michael Wycoff's Looking Up to You from 1982 were used on the track, which first appeared on the compilation Roll wit tha Flavor . When released as a single, the song entered the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 , went gold, and landed a deal with Motown in 1994 . Also in many European charts , e.g. B. the British , German and Austrian , the song was successful.
The second single, Groove Thang , entered the top 20 of the US singles charts in 1994 and made it into the charts of Great Britain and Germany. Sending My Love became a hit in the US and Vibe in the UK that same year . The song Shame , taken from the soundtrack of the film A Low Down Dirty Shame , became a follow-up hit, and the debut album Pronounced Jah-Nay , which was released at the same time, was awarded a gold record. After collaborations with Busta Rhymes and De La Soul , the hit singles Request Line and Crush , which were included on the second album Saturday Night , hit stores in 1997 .
Two years later, Zhané returned to the charts when they recorded the track Jamboree with Naughty by Nature . In the US it was 10th place, in Great Britain 51st place. After 1999 there were no further publications.
