Marcus II

Marcus II (also: Markianos ) († around 152) was Bishop of Alexandria .

His term of office, which is dated to 142–152 (or 143–154), falls under the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius . According to the report of Eusebius of Caesarea , the first heresy arose within the Egyptian Church during Marcus' tenure . The bishop had to deal with the Gnostics Basilides , Carpocrates and Valentinus . He was succeeded by Celadion .
