The Mare Humboldtianum ( Lat. " Humboldt Sea ") is a lunar sea of the Earth's moon within the Humboldtianum basin east of the Mare Frigoris .

It is located on the selenographic coordinates 56.8 ° N, 81.5 ° E and has a diameter of 273 km.

It was named after Johann H. Mädler , who named the sea after Alexander von Humboldt in recognition of his exploration of undiscovered regions.

It is one of only two Maria who have been named after people (besides Mare Smythii ).
