Marek Nikl [ marɛk ɲikl ] (born February 20, 1976 in Nymburk ) is a former Czech football player .

Career

Nikl started playing football in the youth team of Bohemians Prague . In 1994 he moved to Sparta Krč, but the next year he went back to the traditional Czech club Bohemians Prague, with whom he made promotion to the Czech first division in 1996.

In November 1998 Nikl moved to 1. FC Nürnberg in the Bundesliga . He was relegated and promoted twice with the club and was one of the pillars of the club's defense in both classes for eight years. In the 2006/07 season, however, he was pushed into the second row by the young, very successful young defenders. Nevertheless, he was allowed to play in the cup final in Berlin from the start, as regular Honorato Gláuber was out at short notice and coach Hans Meyer relied on experience this time. The FCN won the game 3-2 after extra time.

In the 2007/08 season, Nikl moved back into the second line due to the newcomers and should help as a solid support for the second team in the Bayern League. However, the dissatisfaction with the situation led to an early termination of the contract in September 2007, the FCN did not want to put any obstacles in his way. Marek Nikl moved back to the Czech Republic to his home club Bohemians 1905 Prague . He ended his career after the 2011/12 season and has been working as a scout for 1. FC Nürnberg ever since.

He has made five appearances for the Czech national soccer team , all during his time at the “Club”.
