Margaret Burgess

Margaret Burgess (born December 7, 1949 in the Ayrshire region ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Burgess grew up in Ayrshire and has lived in what is now the constituency of Cunninghame South for over 40 years . Before being elected to the Scottish Parliament , she was Head of the East Ayrshire Citizens' Office .

Political career

Burgess has been a member of the SNP since she was of legal age. In the 2011 parliamentary elections , she ran for the first time to national elections. She won the direct mandate of the constituency of Cunninghame South and thus moved into the Scottish Parliament for the first time. She won the mandate before Labor politician Irene Oldfather , who has been in parliament for Cunninghame South since 1999. Burgess did not run for the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2016 and subsequently left parliament. Her successor Ruth Maguire held the mandate for the SNP.
