Margaret Anne Ford, Baroness Ford (born December 16, 1957 in Saltcoats , Scotland ; born Margaret Anne Garland ) is a British noblewoman and entrepreneur. She currently works for Scottish Television.

Career

Margaret Ford grew up in Saltcoats and attended St Michael's Academy in Kilwinning . She then studied at the University of Glasgow . She graduated with a Master of Philosophy . Initially, she wanted to be a journalist, but then decided to pursue a career in business. She started working for the Cunninghame District Council at a time when the town's dominant steel industry was stumbling into financial crisis.

Eventually she went to Paisley , where she worked from 1993 to 2002 as Managing Director and then Chair of the Eglinton Management Center. In 2000 she became director of Good Practice Limited in Edinburgh and at the same time became director of the telecommunications company Thus Group. Further stations in her career were the Serco Group and Pinnacle Staffing Group.

Since 2008 she has been an Independent Non Executive Director, Chairwoman of the Compensation Committee and member of the Audit Committee of Grainger PLC. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of Stockland Corp. Ltd. and holds other offices in various companies. She also served as Chair of English Partnerships from 2002 to 2008 and Chair of Olympic Park Legacy Company from 2009 to 2012. She resigned from this post after the 2012 Olympic Games , as her professional commitment meant that she would not have the time to take care of the renovation of the park.

She has been on the board of directors of Scottish Television since 2012 .

Ford was named Life Peer as Baroness Ford , of Cunninghame in the North Ayrshire , in May 2006 and has a permanent seat in the House of Lords . In parliament, she has been a member of the Political Polling and Digital Media Committee since 2017.

She is the daughter of Edward Garland and Susan Boyle. She married Christopher Derek Ford in 1982. Their daughter, Katharine Ford , has had epilepsy since childhood . She came to be known as the ultracyclist, an extreme sport cyclist who holds some records, and is an activist for other epilepsy sufferers. The marriage ended in divorce in 1990. In the same year Margaret Ford married David Arthur Bolger, but kept her married name. The two live in West Kilbride and London .
