Margaretha von Ahaus

Margaretha von Ahaus (* 1383 in Ahaus ; † October 1, 1458 in Diepenveen Monastery ) was abbess at Freckenhorst Abbey .

Life

Margaretha von Ahaus came from the ancient Westphalian noble family von Ahaus . Her parents were Ludolph von Ahaus (bailiff at the bishop of Utrecht) and Johanna. Her sister Agnes was an abbess in Nottuln Abbey , her half-brother Heinrich Domvikar and devotee of the Devotio moderna . When she was two or three years old, she came to live with her aunt Jutta in Vreden Abbey . Even after Jutta's departure, she initially stayed in Vreden until she moved to the Freckenhorst Abbey and took over the post here for Abbess Ingeborg von Oldenburg, who died on January 31, 1407. She stayed in this office until 1423 when she entered Diepenveen Monastery . Here she was sub-priority. Jutta von Ahaus was Margaretha's aunt and abbess in Vreden. After a serious illness, she went to Diepenveen Monastery in 1392.
