The Margel Institute ( Croatian Margelov Institute) is a non-governmental institute of the Jewish minority in the Republic of Croatia . The director of the institute is Alen Budaj.

founding

The institute was founded on February 23, 2007 in the Croatian capital Zagreb . The name of the institute goes back to the Croatian rabbi Mojsije Margel .

Areas of responsibility

Since it was founded, the institute has set itself the task of counteracting all forms of anti-Semitism , racism and other forms of discrimination in relation to origin and religion within Croatian society. It is committed to mutually fruitful Croatian-Jewish coexistence. In addition, it presents the Jewish history and culture in the area of ​​Croatia in various projects . Another area of ​​responsibility of the institute is the preservation of Jewish cultural history, religious history in Croatia and remembering the Holocaust .

The Margel Institute in Zagreb works with the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Jerusalem and the Jasenovac Research Institute in New York .
