Assumption of Mary is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Bad Driburg district of Pömbsen in the Höxter district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Church and congregation are part of the Bad Driburg Pastoral Association in the Höxter deanery of the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

The first church was in Pömbsen at the turn of the first millennium. The municipality also included Nieheim, Erwitzen, Emde, Bad Hermannsborn, Reelsen, Schönenberg and Merlsheim. Alhausen was a vicarie who was looked after from Pömbsen. In 1299 the community of Nieheim became independent. In 1324 the parish of Pömbsen was merged with the Marienmünster Abbey .

The church was broken into for the first time in the summer of 1653, probably by Dutch soldiers. Another break-in occurred from November 18th to 19th of the same year. Most of the stolen items are still missing today.

In 1687 today's church was built as the third church building in Pömbsen. The choir was created in 1678.

In 1802 60 houses burned down in Pömbsen, including the rectory as well as the school and sexton house. Several historical documents fell victim to the fire. In the same year, a new one was built on the foundations of the old rectory.

In 1935 a heater was built into the church. The foundation stone with a silver plate with an inscription was exposed on the threshold to the sacristy.

From 1971 to 1974 and 2002 to 2003 the church was extensively renovated.
