Maria Chiara Carrozza (born September 16, 1965 in Pisa ) is an Italian university professor and politician .

Carrozza graduated with a degree in physics and a PhD in engineering . From 2007 to February 2013 she was the rector of the elite university Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa, where she teaches industrial and bioengineering .

In the 2013 parliamentary elections for the 17th legislative term, Carrozza entered the Italian Chamber of Deputies as a candidate for the Democratic Party (PD) (she ran as the top candidate in Tuscany ). From April 28, 2013 to February 22, 2014 she was Minister for Education, Universities and Research in the Letta cabinet .
