Maria Hassabi
Maria Hassabi (* 1973 in Nicosia ) is a Cypriot performance artist and choreographer .
life and work
Maria Hassabi received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in performance and choreography from the California Institute of the Arts in 1994 . In 2009 she received the Grants to Artists from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts . and a Guggenheim grant in 2011 .
Maria Hassabi's performances and live installations work with silence and slowness. The executing bodies alternate between dance and sculpture, living body and still life . Her works, produced for galleries, theaters and public spaces, address the separation between the spectacular and the everyday, between subject and object, between performer and audience.
