The Vaivre – Gray railway is a 52 km long, single-track , non-electrified railway line in the Haute-Saône department in France . It was opened in 1863 and is only accessible for about 18 km today.

history

The applicant for this and other routes specified on behalf of the company was originally the Chemin de fer de Nancy à Gray par Épinal et Vesoul . On August 17, 1853, however, the Chemin de fer de Paris à Strasbourg , which already operated a few lines in the area and continued to prosper, received the concession for the construction and operation of the line. Less than half a year later, on January 21, 1854, it was renamed Chemin de fer de l'Est (CE).

With the nationalization of the French railways, this line was also taken over by the SNCF . The passenger train service was closed on May 31, 1970 on the entire route. In the mid-1980s, the sections that are no longer in operation were shut down, namely the almost 14 km long Vaivre - Noidans-le-Ferroux section around 1985 and the 23 km Noidans-le-Ferroux - Autet two years later.

In the summer months there is cycle and handcar traffic between Vaivre and Mont-le-Vernois . The sidings of the Coop Agricole Interval still exist in Autet . No other customers / users of the railway line are known.
