Maria Haydl

Maria Haydl (born September 23, 1910 in Arbegen ; † September 28, 1969 in Sibiu , married Maria Hatzack ) was a Romanian-German writer . She belonged to the minority of the Transylvanian Saxons in Romania.

Life

The daughter of a math teacher studied at the University of Cluj without a degree and ran a shop in Sibiu after she got married. Only in 1949 (after the divorce) did she acquire the qualification to teach in elementary school and then worked as a teacher. She had numerous literary contacts in the Transylvanian German-speaking literary scene ( Ricarda Terschak , Wolf von Aichelburg , Joachim Wittstock and others) and wrote numerous folk plays that were played in amateur performances and were later rediscovered and performed by Transylvanian emigrants.
