Maria Josepha of the Heart of Jesus Sancho de Guerra (birth name: Maria Josefa Sancho de Guerra , born September 7, 1842 in Vitoria , Spain , † March 20, 1912 in Bilbao , Spain) was a Spanish founder of the order. She is a saint in the Catholic Church.
Maria Josepha founded the Institute of the Servants of Jesus in Bilbao in 1871, together with some companions , which mainly cares for the sick in hospitals, the homeless and the elderly. From 1894 Maria Josepha suffered from a serious heart disease from which she died in 1912. At the time of her death, her community had 43 religious houses and over a thousand members.
She was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1992 and canonized in 2000.
