Maria Martens (born January 8, 1955 in Doetinchem ) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Party (CDA).

Life

After graduating in theology and marketing in 1984 , Maria Martens worked as a lecturer in world views. From 1984 to 1988 she worked as secretary for foreign affairs in the Dutch Mission Council and from 1988 to 1999 as study secretary for the Association of Catholic Social Organizations. Overlapping she was from 1996 to 2000 chairman of the episcopal committee of the Netherlands for the year 2000. Since 1998 she has also been a member of the administrative board of the Catholic Theological University of Utrecht .

She is chairman of the CDA Nijmegen and a member of the party council. Within the party, she is also a member of the magazine editorial team of "CD Verkenningen". She has been a member of the European Parliament since 1999 . There she sits on the Development Committee and is a member of the delegation to the Joint Parliamentary Assembly (ACP-EU). She is a member of the EU parliamentary group European People's Party - European Democrats and sits on the board there.
