Maria Mercader (journalist)

Maria Carla Mercader (born November 28, 1965 in New York City ; † March 29, 2020 there ) was an American journalist .

Life

Maria Mercader studied at the Catholic Dominican Academy and graduated from the College of New Rochelle in 1987 . That same year, she found a job with the CBS page program . From there, she had the opportunity to switch to a journalist position via an internal training program. From then on, she produced smaller news articles about events at home and abroad. She received a News & Documentary Emmy Award for her contribution to business and financial reporting on "The Little Engine That Could, Spam " for CBS News Sunday Morning .

Mercader successfully fought cancer and was repeatedly affected by various diseases in the last two decades of her life. At the end of February 2020, she was diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection. She died on March 29, 2020 at the age of 54 during the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City of complications from a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
