Mariakerk (Cadzand)
The Mariakerk ( German Marienkirche ) is a Protestant church in Cadzand , a district of the Dutch municipality of Sluis ( province of Zeeland ).
history
The Mariakerk is a two-aisled early Gothic hall church in the Scheldt Gothic style . The southern nave was built after 1250, the northern one was added at the beginning of the 14th century. The original west tower, called Sint Lambertustoren ( St. Lambertusturm ), which also served as a navigation mark for shipping, was demolished in 1677 due to the risk of collapse. A roof turret with a bell was erected as a replacement .
In the course of an extensive renovation in 1930, changes to the shape of the church were reversed and given a uniform Gothic appearance again. In addition, the roof turret was removed and the narrow west tower built for it.
The Mariakerk belongs to the parish Zuidwesthoek Sluis within the United Protestant Church in the Netherlands .
organ
The organ in the side gallery was built in 1902 by the organ builder Kruse. The slider chests -instrument has registers on a Manual and Pedal. The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
