Marian Smoluchowski Emil Warburg Physics Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Marian Smoluchowski Emil Warburg Physics Prize has been awarded every two years since 1997 alternately to a German and a Polish physicist and by the German Physical Society (DPG) and the Polish Physical Society (Polskie Towarzystwo Fizyczne, PTF) for outstanding achievements in pure or applied physics. It joins the ranks of the bi-national physics prizes of the DPG. The prize is endowed with € 3000, is associated with a silver medal and is awarded in memory of Marian von Smoluchowski and Emil Warburg , whose portraits are on the medal.

According to the articles of association of 2007, one of the two companies makes a proposal of two to three physicists, the other (host) company chooses. The physicists do not have to be members of the DPG or PTF, but the center of their work must be in one of the two countries.

It is awarded with the help of the Meyer Viol Foundation.
