Marian Busk

Marian Busk , b. Balfour (* 1861 in Great Britain ; † March 31, 1941 Checkendon , Oxfordshire in Great Britain) was a British botanist and suffragette .

Career

Marian Busk was the daughter of the silk merchant Lewis Balfour. After private studies in botany and chemistry , she continued this in 1879 in London at Queen's College . In 1883 she was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree . After a break of several years, she continued her studies at Queen's College. She then assisted Francis Wall Oliver in the translation of Kerner's plant life. In 1894 this work was published under the title Natural History of Plants . In recognition of her academic achievements, Marian Busk was elected a member of the Linnean Society on April 5, 1905 .

Marian Busk actively campaigned for women's suffrage . She was Treasurer of the University of London Graduate Women's Suffrage Society .

In 1880 she married Edward Henry Busk, the only child of the marriage of law teacher and knight Henry William and Mary Anne Busk.
