Marian Jurczyk (born October 16, 1935 in Karczewice , Poland , † December 30, 2014 in Stettin ) was a Polish politician and trade unionist .

During the August 1980 strikes in Poland , Marian Jurczyk, as a representative of the inter-company strike coordination committee (Międzyzakładowy Komitet Strajkowy), signed the August agreement with the government on August 30, 1980 , which led to the approval of the independent trade union Solidarność . From 1998 to 2000 and from 2002 to 2006 he was mayor of Szczecin.

For his services in the Polish opposition movement, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta by the last President of the Republic of Poland in exile , Ryszard Kaczorowski , in 1990 and, posthumously, the Commander's Cross of the same order by President Bronisław Komorowski in 2015 .
