Marianne Faithfull is the second album of Marianne Faithfull , appeared in the UK. It was released in 1965 and was their debut album on the US market.

history

Shortly after Faithfull was signed to Decca Records by Andrew Loog Oldham , she had a top 10 hit in the UK in the fall of 1964 with As Tears Go By , written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richard . Then came out after another top 10 hit ( Come and Stay With Me ) with Come My Way, their first album.

The second album Marianne Faithfull was released a short time later in May 1965 in Great Britain and the USA. The album, produced by Mike Leander , contains hits by Marianne Faithfull such as As Tears Go By and Come and Stay With Me, numerous cover versions such as What Have They Done to the Rain or I'm a Loser .

The track lists of the LP, released in Great Britain and the USA, were initially identical, but there were two additional tracks on the British edition: Downtown and Can't You Hear My Heartbeat . In the course of the summer a new edition of the album was released in the USA, in which their current US hit This Little Bird was also recorded in place of the title They Never Will Leave You . The hits As Tears Go By , Come and Stay With Me and This Little Bird included on the album reached positions 22, 26 and 32 in the US charts.

The album reached number 12 in the US album charts, stayed in the charts for 31 weeks and was Faithfull's most successful album in the US. In the UK, the album was # 10.

Ken Barns describes the album as "an extremely pleasant pop record with over enough good material". Jon Pareles sees the musical success of Martianne Faithfull, who is "angel-faced and with a sweet-sounding voice," as secondary in 1965, and she became known through her relationship with Mick Jagger . Irwin Stambler is also of the opinion that her musical successes were secondary, and that she received much more public attention for her statements about sex and society.
