Marianne Hettinger (* in Augsburg ) is a German- American filmmaker , actress and dancer .

Life

Hettinger, the daughter of the lawyer Gerhard Hettinger and the high school teacher Sibille Hettinger, was born in Augsburg. She has two younger brothers. As a child she took piano, dance and acting lessons because she emulated her idol Gene Kelly , whom she saw for the first time as a five-year-old in his film " An American in Paris ". After graduating from high school, she emigrated to New York alone in the 1980s to realize her dream. She studied acting at the National Shakespeare Conservatory and dance with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and received several scholarships. A modeling career, which was offered to her with a contract by the elite agency, she turned down because she wanted to devote herself entirely to dance and acting. As a dancer, she has become a professional master in ballroom and Latin American dances in the USA and Canada several times and works as a trainer. As an actress, she has appeared in films such as “ Stepford Wives ” alongside Nicole Kidman and she has appeared several times on “ The Late Show with David Letterman ” and danced there with Antonio Banderas .

In 2006 she wrote her first feature film "Mango Tango", a romantic comedy that she produced, directed and also starred in. Hettinger's style moves between relationship comedy, satire and dance film. The film was successful and won the jury award for the best film at the Californian "Ventura Film Festival" 2009, a nomination for the young talent award at the "Five Lakes Film Festival" 2010 and the "best director" at the "Detroit Independent Film Festival" 2010.

The world premiere of "Mango Tango" took place in the Liliom cinema in Augsburg on May 5th, 2009. She met the former European figure skating champion Norbert Schramm , with whom she was married for almost a year. In 2011 the two guests of honor were at New York City's “ Steuben Parade ”.

Norbert Schramm played a male lead in her second film "Saint Vitus' Dance", which premiered at the Ventura Film Festival in 2011 and received the "Honorable Mention" award.
With “Saint Vitus' Dance” and the music film “Strad for Lunch”, which documents the New York concert debut of the highly talented violin virtuoso Oscar Bohórquez, Hettinger returned to the Liliom cinema in Augsburg on July 29, 2012.

“Homeless in Washington” is a short film by Hettinger which, in just twelve minutes, illustrates the dark side of the capitalist “model of success”. In conversations with homeless people (held in December 2013) who lead a life of unprecedented poverty in the immediate vicinity of the White House, the contrast between great power and even greater need is illustrated. “Hallo New York” is a TV format developed by the versatile artist in 2013 in which she conducts interviews with artists in New York. Meanwhile 13 episodes have been produced, lively conversations with singer and composer Ann Hampton Callaway and with German star singer Ute Lemper have been shown.
