Mariano Brito

Mariano Romeo Brito Checchi (born January 24, 1930 - January 31, 2014 ) was a Uruguayan lawyer and politician .

Mariano Brito successfully completed his studies at the Universidad de la República and then worked as a lawyer and as a lecturer, among other things, in public law. The doctorate Catholic Brito, who belonged to the Partido Nacional and was a member of Opus Dei , held the position of director of the Instituto Uruguayo de Derecho Administrativo . He also founded the Anuario de Derecho Administrativo , the yearbook for administrative law. From March 1, 1990 to August 18, 1993 he was Minister of Defense of Uruguay in the cabinet of President Luis Alberto Lacalle . From 1997 to 2009 he was Rector of the Universidad de Montevideo .
