Mariano Garrigó

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mariano Garrigó (* unknown; † unknown) was Director Supremo of Honduras from August 10 to 20, 1839 .

He was a delegate to the Constituent Assembly and was elected President of the Republic of Honduras.

Under the provincial government of José María Martinez Salinas , Honduras declared itself a separate state on October 26, 1838. Francisco Ferrera commanded the troops of Honduras in the conflict with the federal government under José Francisco Morazán Quezada to which the separation of Honduras led. On April 5, 1839, his troops and those of Nicaragua were defeated by the forces of Morazán at the Battle of Espíritu Santo in El Salvador. On September 25, 1839, the troops of Honduras were surprised in San Pedro Perulapán and Francisco Ferrera injured, whereupon he fled to Nicaragua . Since Mariano Garrigó was exposed to pressure from Morazán as a separatist, he sent his resignation from the presidency to Parliament by messenger on August 20, 1893. For August 9, 1839, parliament had not called for presidential elections, so parliament passed the office to another deputy, Jose Maria Bustillo, who stated, however, that he could not accept the office for personal reasons.

At the constituent assembly of January 15, 1845, Mariano Garrigó was again a delegate. In 1846 he was General Secretary in Parliament.

In June 1863, Mariano Garrigó became Minister General in the cabinet of José Francisco Montes Fonseca .
