José Francisco Montes Fonseca

José Francisco Montes Fonseca (* 1830 in Ciudad de Comayagua ; † after 1888 ibid) was President of Honduras from January 11, 1862 to February 5, 1862 and from December 4, 1862 to June 21, 1863 .

Life

His parents were Clara Fonseca and Juan José Montes.

When José Santos Guardiola Bustillo was shot dead by his bodyguard, his deputy, Victoriano Castellanos Cortés, was in Suchitoto, El Salvador . The Parliament elected José Francisco Montes Fonseca MP as President. Montes had the bodyguards arrested and sentenced to death by a court-martial in the presence of José María Medina's military and fusilized to death .

On February 4, 1862, Victoriano Castellanos Guarita, Lempira took over the presidency. He moved the seat of government on May 4, 1862 to Los Llanos de Santa Rosa.

For health reasons, President Victoriano Castellanos transferred the presidency on December 4, 1862 back to the deputy Montes.

On March 3, 1863, Montes signed a defense alliance with the government of El Salvador under Gerardo Barrios against the government of Guatemala under José Rafael Carrera Turcios .

On June 10, 1863, troops from Guatemala under the command of General Vicente Cerna Sandoval occupied Cucuyagua. On June 15, 1863 they took Los Llanos de Santa Rosa . On June 20, 1863 in Los Llanos de Santa Rosa , José María Medina is proclaimed President. With arms and troops from Vicente Cerna Sandoval, Medina advances to Comayagua and occupies it on July 19, 1863. Before his troops leave Comayagua, Montes sets part of the city on fire. The troops from Medina establish their quarters in La Paz, La Paz Department (Honduras) . On September 7, 1863, Montes appears at the headquarters and offers unconditional surrender.

In 1876, Montes was Minister of Finance and War in the government cabinet of Marco Aurelio Soto .

Luis Bográn Barahona decreed him a pension of 100 pesos in 1888.
